Position Overview

The Inventory Control Clerk plays a critical support role within the warehouse team, ensuring accurate inventory records and efficient daily operations. This position is responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, discrepancy resolution, and product handling.

Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while supporting warehouse operations and inventory integrity.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform cycle counts of inventory and update records manually or electronically
  • Check in drivers and verify that paperwork matches delivered products
  • Manage inventory returns and direct proper product placement
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and security of the dock area
  • Follow and maintain cycle count schedules, bin audits, and discrepancy tracking
  • Research and resolve inventory discrepancies, including negative balances
  • Complete product return put-aways
  • Assist with damage recovery and donation coordination
  • Conduct daily purchase order (PO) audits for accuracy
  • Support additional inventory control tasks, including:
    • Assigning new pick locations
    • Managing duplicate pick bins
    • Bread inventory tracking
    • Correcting invalid pallet IDs
    • Responding to inventory requests
  • Monitor inventory rotation using FIFO/FEFO methods to minimize spoilage
  • Verify inbound and outbound shipments against POs and invoices
  • Inspect incoming products for quality, temperature, and labeling compliance
  • Ensure proper storage across dry, refrigerated, and frozen environments
  • Assist with product recall processes by identifying and isolating affected inventory
  • Generate reports on inventory variances, stock levels, and movement
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe warehouse environment
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Remove and document damaged, expired, or contaminated products
  • Provide support to other departments as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Willingness and ability to learn new systems and procedures
  • Experience operating material handling equipment (forklift, order picker, pallet jack)
  • Ability to work in cold environments for extended periods (protective gear provided)
  • Comfortable performing repetitive tasks

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of inventory control or warehouse experience, including administrative responsibilities

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a warehouse environment, including office, cooler, and freezer settings
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, equipment noise, and warehouse traffic
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the day
  • Frequent reaching, bending, and lifting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Use of standard office and warehouse equipment
