Primary Function
Under immediate supervision, responsible for sampling, processing and testing materials according to established sampling and testing procedures and specifications.

Responsibilities

Perform sampling and testing on materials in accordance with established procedures and specifications
Perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment and maintain proper documentation of maintenance and calibration
Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete testing and/or inspection reports in accordance with established quality procedures
Review test procedures, plans, specifications, general notes and shop/working drawings for assigned activities prior to performing assigned duties
The safe utilization, storage and maintenance of all documents and tools
Contact assigned direct report for priorities and deadlines for assigned tasks
Update of Direct Report on progress and delays on every task or assignment
Safe usage and maintenance of individually assigned company vehicle and laboratory/testing equipment including use within company policy
Carry out assigned duties in accordance with established procedures
Meets directed priorities and deadlines
Maintenance of certifications at the time of employment or obtained during employment

Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED certification
Shall possess a valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet firm’s auto insurability requirements
The following certifications and training are preferred:
Completion of Troxler Manufacturing or equal radiation safety course to utilize nuclear gauges
ACI Field Testing Technician Grade 1
Successful applicants without the above certifications or training may be required to pursue successful attainment of the certifications. Related experience may be substituted with the approval of the client.

Some Knowledge of:
Basic math and science to analyze laboratory results

Ability to:
Communicate effectively orally and in writing to communicate problems, status of work, daily reports, etc.
Lift (60 lbs.)
Move (100 lbs.) equipment and sample containers
Distinguish colors and shades of colors to analyze laboratory results
Read and understand procedures, specifications, instructions, labels, reports, etc.
Maneuver within confines of laboratory
Travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain
Access shelves, cabinets, etc. that have been constructed to preserve the integrity of the physical conditions of samples
Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external personnel
Use hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels and picks

Required to:
Present a professional appearance to best represent the firm
Possess the dexterity to utilize delicate and small laboratory equipment
Comply with all attendance requirements as noted in most current edition of Corporate Policy Manual
Pursue technical certifications such as: ACI Field Testing Technician Grade 1 , and TXAPA Soils and Base and Hot Mix Asphalt certifications

Skills:
Communication to interact with clients and project managers
Working conditions:
Works in laboratory environment containing chemicals and solvents
Conditions include humidity, noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, electrical energy, and grease and oils
May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet deadlines
