This is a brief job description, all essentials functions are not listed and are not limited to the following:

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible of operating heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. Heavy equipment may include but is not limited to front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by policies and procedures. Equipment Operators must also ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed and bring any problems to the attention of the Supervisor. The following are essential functions of the Heavy Equipment Operator position:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-Knowledge and appreciation of heavy equipment safety and operation

-Skilled in road construction and safe operation of front-end loaders, dozers, graders, excavators, etc.

-Knowledge of equipment cleaning, maintenance and storage procedures

-Knowledge of basic first aid and safety procedures

-Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks according to work schedule

-Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency

-Ability and willingness to communicate, follow directions and work well with others

-Comply with all policies and procedures including those outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Physical Demands

-Ability To enter and exist heavy machinery while maintaining three points of contact, awareness of surroundings and multi-limb coordination

-Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry heavy objects (over 50 lbs.)

-Ability to perform free of drugs and alcohol; including prescription drugs that may hinder the ability to perform the essential functions of the job

Sensory Demands

-Periodic exposure to dangerous and /or toxic substances and must wear necessary personal protection as a precaution to protect eyes, nose, and skin, etc.

Environmental Conditions

-Ability to work in all types of weather and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold conditions

GENERAL LABORER

This is a brief job description, all essentials functions are not listed and are not limited to the following:

A General Laborer performs tasks involving strenuous physical labor on highway and heavy construction projects. May operate a variety of hand and power tools. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up rubble, debris and remove waste materials. The Laborer must maintain a clean and secure job site (pick up tools/equipment) to eliminate potential hazards; must ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed and bring any problems to the attention of a Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-Knowledge of proper use of equipment, hand and power tools, materials and supplies used in highway and heavy construction work in a safe manner to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life

-Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions

-Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks according to work schedule

-Ability and willingness to communicate, follow instructions and transmit written and oral instructions

-Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency

-Ability to work well with others

-Comply with policies and procedures including those outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Physical Demands

-Regularly works near moving machinery/tools which requires good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination, must be able to move quickly and have excellent stamina.

-Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects (over 50 lbs.), use legs, hips, shoulders, abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue

-Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time and climb a ladder

-Ability to perform free of drugs and alcohol; including prescription drugs that may hinder the ability to perform the essential functions of the job

-Meet the physical demands of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. General Laborers are required to be on their feet for long periods of time, either standing or moving throughout the work areas.
